Effective date: October 28, 2026
This privacy policy explains how StartDrugRehab LLC (“StartDrugRehab,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses and shares information when you use startdrugrehab.com, call our admissions helpline, or claim a facility listing. If you have questions, email [email protected].
Who we are
StartDrugRehab is an independent directory of licensed addiction treatment facilities, built from public data published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Calls to our helpline are answered by StartDrugRehab LLC, a free admissions service. We are not a treatment facility, health care provider or health plan.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- When you call our helpline: your phone number, the time and length of the call, and anything you choose to tell us, such as the type of help you’re looking for, your location, your insurance and details about your situation or a loved one’s. If a call is recorded, you’ll be told at the start of the call.
- When you claim or manage a facility listing: your name, job title, work email, the facility’s phone number, website, hours, description and logo, and the verification code you enter.
- When you email us: your email address and what you write.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: pages you visit, links and phone numbers you tap, the site that referred you, and general device and browser information. We use Google Analytics for this, set up through Google Site Kit.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and request logs, which our hosting and Cloudflare (our security and content delivery provider) use to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Cookies: small files that help the site work and help us measure how it’s used. See “Cookies and analytics” below.
Information from other sources
- Facility listings are based on public data from SAMHSA FindTreatment.gov and on details that facility owners give us.
- When a facility pays for a claimed listing, our payment processor, Stripe, tells us whether the payment succeeded and gives us the billing email and subscription status. We never receive or store full card numbers.
Health-related information
When you call us, you may share information about substance use, mental health, treatment or insurance. We use it only to help you find and connect with treatment and to answer your questions. We do not sell it and we do not use it for advertising.
Because we are not a health care provider or health plan, the federal HIPAA privacy rule generally doesn’t apply to information you share with us. We still treat it as sensitive: we limit who can see it, and we share it with a treatment provider only when you ask us to connect you or give us permission.
How we use information
- To answer your call, help you compare treatment options and check insurance benefits
- To connect you with a treatment provider when you ask us to
- To run, maintain and improve the directory, including fixing errors and measuring which pages help people
- To verify facility owners, process claimed-listing subscriptions and show owners their call-click counts
- To send service emails, such as verification codes, receipts and listing updates
- To protect the site, prevent fraud and misuse, and comply with the law
How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only in these situations:
- Treatment providers: with a provider you ask us to connect you with, or with your permission. Our helpline may connect callers with partner treatment providers, and you’re never obligated to choose any program.
- Service providers: companies that help us run the site and our services, such as web hosting, Cloudflare, Google Analytics, Stripe and our email delivery service. They may use the information only to provide services to us.
- Facility listings: details a facility owner submits for a claimed listing (phone number, website, hours, description and logo) are shown publicly on that listing.
- Legal reasons: when required by law, legal process or to protect the safety of any person.
- Business changes: as part of a merger, sale or transfer of our business, subject to this policy.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working and to understand how it’s used through Google Analytics. We do not use advertising cookies or share health-related information with advertising networks.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser opt-out add-on. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
Facility owners and claimed listings
If you claim a listing, we use your contact details to verify that you work for the facility, manage your subscription and contact you about your listing. Payments are handled by Stripe under Stripe’s privacy policy. You can update your card or cancel from your private management link. If you cancel, your listing goes back to a standard listing at the end of your paid period.
How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations, and to resolve disputes. Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics retention settings.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limited access to sensitive information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we have about you and how we use it
- Correct information that’s inaccurate
- Delete your information, unless we need to keep it for a legal reason
- Stop sharing your information with treatment providers
Some states, including California and Washington, give residents specific privacy rights, including rights over health-related information. We honor these requests from anyone, wherever you live. To make a request, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before we act on it, and we won’t treat you differently for making a request.
Children
This site is meant for adults looking for treatment for themselves or someone else. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.
Other websites
Listings and guides link to facility websites and government sources. We don’t control those sites, and their own privacy policies apply.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the effective date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we’ll make that clear on the site.
