Quick answer
Our guides are written in plain language from authoritative public sources such as SAMHSA, NIDA, NIAAA, CDC and CMS, and are reviewed and updated regularly. Facility listings come from SAMHSA's FindTreatment.gov and are not paid placements or endorsements.
How we write
- Accuracy first. We cite authoritative sources and avoid statistics we can’t attribute.
- Plain language. We define clinical terms and write without judgment, using person-first language.
- No medical advice. Our content is educational and doesn’t replace care from a licensed professional.
- Updates. Every guide shows the date it was last updated, and we revise guides when laws, coverage rules or clinical guidance change.
How facility listings work
- Data comes from SAMHSA’s FindTreatment.gov, which covers state-licensed facilities. Facilities report their own details.
- Listings are ordered by how completely a facility’s services are documented, including accreditation and levels of care. Facilities can’t pay for placement.
- Each facility page says clearly that our helpline is not affiliated with that facility.

Frequently asked questions
Where does your facility data come from?
From SAMHSA's FindTreatment.gov, the federal government's locator for licensed substance use treatment facilities. Facilities report their own services, payment options and accreditation to SAMHSA.
How often is the data updated?
We refresh facility data periodically. The date of the latest update appears on every directory page.
How do I report an error?
If a listing is out of date, tell our admissions team when you call, or ask the facility to update its record with SAMHSA. We pull in the corrections at our next refresh.
