Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): the basics
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) uses FDA-approved medications, usually alongside counseling, to treat opioid and alcohol use disorders. For opioids, the options are buprenorphine, methadone and naltrexone. For alcohol, they are naltrexone, acamprosate and disulfiram.
